Major New Photography Gallery to Open in Chelsea with Young Elvis Exhibition
The King's Road in Chelsea is to see the launch of a major new photography gallery later this month, as Proud Chelsea opens its doors for the first time. Alex Proud, Director of Proud Galleries has recently announced the company's expansion, with this new space dedicated exclusively to photography. Situated just down the road from the Saatchi Gallery and world-renowned art publishers Taschen, Proud Chelsea launches with an exhibition comprising photographs of a young Elvis Presley.
Elvis at 21 – New York to Memphis consists of an amazing array of candid photographs taken of the young Elvis before and during his rise to worldwide megastardom. These images, taken by renowned photographer Alfred Wertheimer, have never been exhibited before in the UK. Following hot on the heels of the launch of Proud Cabaret, a burlesque club in the City, Proud Chelsea sees Proud Galleries in some ways returning to its roots. As Director Alex Proud says, "Photography is my love, it is what Proud is founded on and Proud Chelsea is an expression of this. It is about dedication to photographers, to photography lovers, and to being the very best in the field. The new space is a result of our unwavering devotion Photo of Elvis http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/resources...is%20%20big.jpg http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/spooners/...xhibition-1726/ __________________ |

Richard Marx and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Celebrate the Holidays at Graceland11/2/2009
EPE is happy to announce that, once again, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will be our spotlight charity for the annual Christmas lighting ceremony to be held at Graceland on Friday, November 20th.
This year, joining a group of children from St. Jude to "flip the switch" will be Elvis fan and Grammy Award winner Richard Marx. For over 20 years, Richard Marx has consistently and powerfully made his mark on the music industry. In addition to selling over 30 million records, and writing, as of 2009, thirteen #1 songs, he has remained a fixture on pop and adult contemporary radio, and has produced some of the biggest names in the music business. Among those artists, *NSYNC, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Vince Gill, 98°, Luther Vandross, Kenny Rogers, Sarah Brightman, Lara Fabian, Sister Hazel, The Tubes and SHeDAISY. More recently, he has written and produced records for Daughtry, Leann Rimes, Katherine Jenkins, Travis Tritt, Emerson Drive, Natalie Cole, Keith Urban, Paulina Rubio, Kenny Loggins, Chris Botti, Michael Bolton, and actor Hugh Jackman. Richard is honored to be sharing a stage at Graceland with patients from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization. |
Legacy Recordings is proud to announce the release of Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight, the ultimate career-spanning collection of seminal recordings by Elvis Presley, in commemoration of the King of Rock & Roll's 75th birthday (January 8, 2010). Elvis 75 -- a four CD, 100 song collection -- will be available everywhere on Tuesday, December 8.
The first major Elvis Presley retrospective to cover the full spectrum of the artist's world-changing career, Elvis 75 runs from "My Happiness," the acetate Elvis himself paid nearly four dollars to record at the Memphis Recording Service on July 18, 1953, a year before signing with Sun Records, to "A Little Less Conversation (JXL Radio Remix Edit)," a posthumous #1 hit for Elvis in the UK, Australia and more than 20 other countries in 2002.
Offering fans an unprecedented range of essential material, Elvis 75 provides a generous selection of the electrifying earth-shattering primal rock & roll of young Elvis; the swinging good vibes of Elvis's soundtrack recordings; the heartfelt humility of his gospel performances and the intimacy of his ballads; the pure pop power and show biz magic of Elvis in Vegas; and a record-setting number of #1 and Top 10 international smashes.
The lavish Elvis 75 box set includes an 80-page booklet featuring many rare photographs and a new essay by musical and cultural critic Billy Altman (Rolling Stone, The New Yorker).
A single disc edition of Elvis 75, featuring key tracks culled from the four-disc set, will be released on January 5, 2010 (the week of Elvis' birthday: January 8).
Legacy's release of Elvis 75 kicks off a year-long celebration of the life and music of Elvis Presley, the world's first rock & roll star.

Lisa Marie Presley is firing back at her former nanny -- the one who just sued her -- claiming the woman broke her contract by posting photos of Presley's twin babies on Facebook.
Presley countersued Christine White -- the nanny who claims she was forced to work ridiculous hours without getting OT ...while Presley was suffering from postpartum depression.
Presley claims White snapped 164 photographs and shot video of her twins and her private residence ...then posted some of them on Facebook.
Presley alleges White flagrantly violated the confidentiality agreement she signed.
Forget White's OT ... Presley wants White to ante up for the damage she caused.
Lisa Marie has it bad -- and NASCAR capitalizesPresley the focus of sport's latest promotional campaignBy B. Duane Cross, NASCAR.COM
August 1, 2005 11:25 AM EDT (15:25 GMT) The question was simple enough: Would you like to interview Lisa Marie Presley? She's the face of the latest 30-second NASCAR ad that asks, "How bad have you got it?" The commercial combines footage of Lisa Marie at the Pepsi 400, race footage and her song Thanx off the Now What album. NASCAR also is in discussions with Capitol Records for cross-promotion at retail and radio venues around the Presley-NASCAR relationship.
LMP -- daughter of Elvis and Priscilla, activist, musician. ... Yeah, I could be persuaded. My parents instilled in me at an early age a great sense of history. I know Elvis' story, from Tupelo to Graceland; I grew up 30 minutes south of Tupelo, a couple hours from Memphis. Other than Highway 45, Elvis was the best thing to ever come out of Northeast Mississippi. Elvis and Priscilla were married the day we loaded up the family Ford Falcon and moved from Fayetteville, Tenn., to Aberdeen, Miss. Ten years later, fate had my mom and me on a Trailsway bus en route from Tennessee to Mississippi -- but mired in heavy traffic in Memphis; the world was laying The King to rest. (Like many others, my mom still has the August 1977 newspapers that mourned Presley's death.) We both have daughters named Riley (Lisa Marie) or Reily (me). Interview Lisa Marie? Yeah, that's doable. I know her story, too -- and it's not Jacko or Nick Cage. It's never been about her celebrity, not for me. She's into LEAP and the Citizens Commission on Human Rights. She's also actively involved with Presley Place. The lady isn't big on talk; she's does the walk.
After the interview everyone had the same question: What's she like? As if the answer was going to include the words "diva" or "prima donna." Truth is Lisa Marie's every other thirtysomething mother of two with a career. When she's not Lisa Marie Presley, she's mom. What else is there? Lisa Marie comes across as someone you'd want in your circle of friends. And that's where we began ... So, Ms. Presley, would you do another ride-along with Wally Dallenbach? "Hell no! ... But I would like to go around the track with someone sane," she says. For those who missed it, her pre-Pepsi 400 "Wally's World" trek around Daytona was must-scream TV.
"I knew I was in for it," says Presley, "when I asked him before we started that if I asked he would slow down. He didn't answer." Presley performed before the Pepsi 400 at Daytona on July 2, and though that was her first NASCAR race to attend in person, she's quick to say that "I kinda got hooked." "I got a crash-course in the whole arena -- racers, their stories. ... It's amazing [that they] basically jeopardize their lives for our entertainment." And it's that entertainment on which NASCAR is looking to capitalize. Presley is the latest entertainer to lend her fame to the "How bad have you got it?" marketing campaign, joining a list that includes Hootie and the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow and Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others. Presley also says the sport's ongoing move toward the left coast will be well-received. "I think the West Coast will embrace NASCAR; there is more of an audience." Speaking of audiences, Presley's music is gaining its own -- despite the industry's current slant toward pop princesses. "[The music industry] is not at its best at this moment," she says. "It's not conducive to different kinds of music. ... It's shallow and commercial." Nonetheless, her gritty debut album To Whom It May Concern was certified gold and her follow-up entry debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard chart. Presley admits it has been "hard to walk my own path," but says she wouldn't change a thing. "Most of the content of the second record is radio-friendly. But I did my own thing, didn't conform -- and that's not necessarily praised in society."
Her daughter, Riley Keough, also has done her own thing. She did two runway shows during Fashion Week 2002 in Milan, Italy, for designers Dolce & Gabbana, and she currently is a model for the Dior fashion house. Presley readily admits to having reservations about 16-year-old Riley pursuing a modeling career. "Yes, of course -- because of the nature of [the business] savors superficial things. But she's so unaffected by all of it, and all is going good." However, she does have some advice for those who either want to break into the entertainment industry or are trying to follow famous footsteps: "All you can do is the best you can do. Be serious about it. "Being an individual is OK rather than being what you're thought of or should be." To that end, Presley has engaged herself in several projects to help others. In 2002, she testified before Congress on behalf of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, championing the cause against labeling children mentally ill and drugging them with heavy, mind-altering, psychiatric drugs. She also supporters LEAP -- the Literacy, Education and Ability Program -- as well as Presley Place, a charitable organization in Memphis that helps homeless people. "I'm not someone out for myself," she says. "I'm not vain and I don't want attention. I have to take responsibility because I have the ability to help others. ... I'm blessed to be privileged." The opinions expressed here are solely those of the writer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hollywood icon Burt Reynolds has been discharged from a drug rehabilitation center following treatment for his addiction to painkillers.
The 73-year-old actor was admitted to the Hanley Center in Florida last month after a nasty fall at his waterfront mansion in Hobe Sound led him to realize he'd become "a prisoner of prescription pain pills."
According to the National Enquirer, the Smokey and the Bandit star agreed to undergo detox and a 30-day rehab program after doctors raised fears for his mental health in the aftermath of the accident.
The actor has previously confessed to a reliance on sleeping aid Halcion after turning to the drug to ease the terrible pain he felt from temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) in the 1980s.
Reynolds' manager, Erik Kritzer, confirmed the rehab stint, insisting the star relapsed after undergoing painful surgery on his back and "checked himself into rehab in order to regain control of his life."

Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley, Jack Soden, Gary Hovey and other major players at EPE need to get round a table with Bob Sillerman of CKX and the Senior Vice President of Sony Records to take a serious look at the Elvis Presley Legacy and decide what is best for the future. It seems there is no co-ordination of effort at present. If they have run out of ideas then why not ask the fans for suggestions? |

Elvis is returning to one of the places where it all started. As part of the 12th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival, which takes place from October 8 to 15, Indie Memphis is bringing the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll back to the Levitt Shell in Overton Park with a free outdoor screening of the concert film, “Elvis: ‘68 Special,” at 7 pm, Friday, October 9. In the event of rain, the screening will be held the following Friday. Presented by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. and co-presented by the Levitt Shell and the Memphis Flyer, the screening will take place at the site where Elvis Presley first gained public attention by stealing the show from headliner Slim Whitman with his performance of “That’s All Right.” Many music historians call that night at Overton Park in 1954 the world’s first rock and roll concert. “This is certainly a highlight of this year’s Indie Memphis Film Festival and a great way to say thank you to the community that has supported us for all these years,” said Erik Jambor, Executive Director of Indie Memphis. “Seeing Elvis perform on a 20-foot screen with the amazing sound system of the Levitt Shell promises to be an experience not to be missed.” Elvis Presley led the rock ‘n’ roll revolution in music and pop culture in the 1950s. Then in the 1960s he concentrated mainly on his movie career. By 1968, it had been more than seven years since he had appeared on stage in front of a live audience. In his first television special, clad in his now-iconic black leather suit, Presley performed classic hits both alone and, in sequences generally regarded as the forerunner of today’s popular “unplugged” jam sessions, with friends and the original members of his band. The program also included splashy production numbers. “Elvis changed the world with his performance of ‘That’s All Right’ at the Overton Park Shell 55 years ago,” said Scott Williams, vice president of marketing at Elvis Presley Enterprises, “It’s exciting that a whole new generation of Memphians will be able to experience that song and many others in the same venue in 2009.” “We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to bring free films back to the Shell. It’s so fitting that the first film in this new era of the Shell should be the “‘68 Special.” Elvis’ performance here in 1954 was one for the history books,” said Anne E. Pitts, executive director of the Levitt Shell, “Thanks to this perfect partnership with Indie Memphis and Elvis Presley Enterprises, we’re bringing back free film in the park AND Elvis. It’s a wonderful chance to pay tribute to the Shell’s unique history and continue a great tradition.” Usually referred to as the “‘68 Special,” the actual name of the program was “Elvis.” Taped in June of 1968 at NBC’s Burbank studios, it first aired December 3 on NBC and generated the network’s biggest ratings victory of the year and the season’s top-rated show. It stands today as one of the great moments in rock music history and as a milestone in Elvis’ career. After this triumph, Presley poured renewed creative vigor into his recording work, wrapped up his movie obligations and returned full-time to the concert stage. The Indie Memphis Film Festival, recently named one of the world’s 25 “Coolest Film Festivals” by MovieMaker magazine, presents a program of feature films, documentaries, short films, animation and student work, highlighting regional filmmaking from all corners of the country while continuing its twelve-year tradition of showcasing Southern films and filmmakers. Memphians can support the non-profit organization and help it reach its December fundraising goal by becoming an Indie Memphis member for $50 per year ($30 for full-time students; $40 for filmmakers with at least two production credits). Memberships provide year-round benefits, including special discounts at the annual Indie Memphis Film Festival. Corporate sponsorship opportunities for the October film festival are still available as well. Those wanting more information about Indie Memphis and its 12th annual festival can visit its Web site at www.indiememphis.com. |

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/wirecopy...form-on-M1.htmlTop tribute singers Elvis Shmelvis and Elvince were on their way home from a gig in London when they got stuck in a massive traffic jam on the M1.
With traffic at a total standstill Martyn Dias and Vince Citrano jumped out of the car and treated bored motorists to an impromptu gig.
"We were driving back from a gig at an Elvis memorabilia shop in London where when we got stuck in a really bad traffic jam," said Martyn Dias, 47, from St Albans, Herts.
"The police closed the road so traffic was at a complete standstill and everyone was sitting in their cars totally bored.
"We were still in our Elvis costumes so we grabbed the battery powered amplifier out the boot and gave an impromptu performance on the northbound carriageway.
"It was amazing, everyone started singing and clapping along and we even had a few requests."
Martyn, who is one of the UK's top Elvis impersonators, and Vince a hairdresser, also from St Albans, had been performing at a street party to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the King's death.
The pair are well known Elvis acts and often travel to gigs together but admit they have never played in the middle of a motorway.
Bored drivers couldn't believe their eyes when the pair got out of their cars and started hip-shaking in the road.
Motorists wound down their windows, leapt out of their cars and started clapping and waving.
"We had guitars and backing music and played songs such as The Wonder Of You and GI Blues," said Martyn.
"It was great fun. We were still buzzing from all the attention the street party received and looking at the stationary traffic up ahead, we couldn't resist one for the road.
"There was a great atmosphere and people were shouting out requests, we even had to do a special birthday song for someone.
"We only had about 15 minutes before the traffic eased and we had to get back in our cars but we did the best we could."
Martyn, who gave up his day job as a senior IT manager 15 years ago to become an Elvis impersonator, has appeared on numerous TV shows and even in Holby City.
He performs as the King of Rock and Roll five nights a week and has been voted the top Elvis in the UK.
He is the only impersonator to have performed in Trafalgar Square.
"I was in a band and my partner was a big Elvis fan so I copied him and found I had a flair for being Elvis," said Martyn, who has two teenage sons.
"I decided to give up my day job and now I'm a full time Elvis."
His wife Sue videoed the gig and posted it on YouTube and Martyn and Vince have since been inundated to perform on other motorways.
"Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and now we've had people asking us to play on other motorways in the country," he said.
Last night just after 7, the sky over Graceland got very dark, the winds begun to whip, and the rain fell.
Guests visiting Elvis' grave were asked to evacuate the property but refused. EPE employees exclusively told Elvis Unlimited that it took 15 minutes to get guests to leave the property ( for their own safety) due to the weather conditions. Staff also said, " The fans are passionate. They really love Elvis! And despite the weather, they wanted to stay."
And hats off to the Graceland staff for wanting the fans to come down from the hill until the storm ended. The Graceland staff put safety first. And from the picture shown, you can see why they were so concerned for tourists. A tree on the front lawn fell down during the storm. It fell and broke the original white wooden fence which has been at Graceland while Elvis lived there. I am sure Graceland will have this tree cleaned up and the lawn looking as beautiful as ever ASAP! Luckily no one was hurt not even a squirrel!

In 1966 Elvis saw a ranch for sale near Graceland. It was beautiful, especially at night with a lighted bridge that spanned a fourteen acre lake. What attracted Elvis the most was the lighted thirty foot cross behind the bridge. Elvis took this as a sign from God and purchased the ranch. He named the ranch the Circle G, after Graceland. The ranch came complete with a red brick home that Elvis used as a second home. Elvis spent a great deal of time at the ranch and returned there for his honeymoon. Priscilla most likely became pregnant while on her honeymoon at the ranch.
